Storage Sheds

A resident erecting a shed on their property must meet the specifications of the Town of Dyer (right).

Acceptable sheds, which can be found at local home improvement centers, are:

a. High-impact resin storage buildings such as those made by Suncast, Black & Decker, Rubbermaid, SmartShed and Royal Group

b. Wooden storage buildings such as E-Z Build or others that use pre-cut treated lumber and roof shingling

Unacceptable sheds are those made of aluminum or galvanized steel with a baked enamel finish. These types of sheds are easily dented, prone to rusting, and become unusable within a few years.

Town of Dyer Accessory Building Specifications
(Applies to storage sheds; does not apply to gazebos or other open-air type structures)

1. Maximum Number of accessory buildings allowed per lot: one (1)

2. Maximum Size: 168 sq ft (12 ft x 14 ft)

3. Maximum Height: 12 ft at the peak

4. May not be placed on an easement or in any required front or side yard

5. Must be placed a minimum of 5 ft from side and rear property lines and a minimum of 5 ft from other structures (the home, deck, fence, pool, etc)
