Dyer is in St. John Township, one of 11 townships in Lake County, which is in Northwest Indiana.

Lake County, one of 92 counties in the state of Indiana, is located in the northwest corner of the state, just 15 miles from downtown Chicago. Lake County is bordered by Lake Michigan on the north, the state of Illinois on the west, County Line Road on the east, and the Kankakee River on the south.
